Drawing your own conclusions is what a forum is all about. You're going to get lots of different opinions, some backed up with data, others just speculation. It's up to you to think a little bit and draw your own conclusions.

i remember somebody done an experiment on the net on a few brand of after market filter.. That guy place a paper filter on the tip of the vaccum pipe than he place the filter on top of that paper filter... he than turns on the vaccum cleaner and sucks a pile of dust that he prepared..

The result is K&N air flow: good Filtration: good
HKS good bad
Apexi good good
*BLITZ ok bad
*da silver one not LM
Trust OK OK

I think the result is sort of like this.. ( i forgot how did he test out the air flow) i don't think this experiment is really accurate but quite intresting..

and for the price HKS RS costs around $700 Apexi $300 K&N $100 something to $200

I' know quite a few people using HKS RS kit... they don't really have any problem and they all said that it sounds better than other filter that they use before..So i don't really know which is the best... But if you are a guy that don't care too much maintenance of your car i suggest you get something like an apexi one, coz for HKS you gotta replace the foam and K&N you've got to re-oil them.

Had the HKS RS intake in my old wrx. I don't know if it was my driving style or my car badly tuned or what, I didn't get very good milage per tank with that fitted.

However, it was a good sounding intake.

mapple, are you talkin about the one being sold on TradeMe? Just get it man, its cheap. Keep your current setup and swap back if you don't like the HKS.

Could you use the HKS induction pipe but change the filter to apexi? Do they fit the same diameter?

The auction mentioned something about a crack at the bottom of the filter somewhere.. Maybe thats why it was that cheap? Easy fix anyway :- )

Hmmm, this thread is as good as any, so I'll add my thoughts to it...

The Apexi seems too good to be true - the best of both worlds? Max filtration and flow? (see the mkiv link in earlier posts) Anyways, assuming it is that good, I don't really like the way it's connected - there's still that concertinaed bit I don't like:

The HKS, on the left, looks to connect to the throttle body in a better fashion... Are there any intakes that have the best of all three worlds?

Well, you can replace the stock bellows with a sillicone coupler & weld a new connecting pipe to the amuminium elbow. Better yet, just terminate the breather hose with a small air filter and leave the elbow unmolested.

Also, don't ever use the HKS kit with an auto car!

I think I'll look into a teeny weensy filter for the breather...

I have just ordered the Apexi Power Intake plus cold air box. The whole setup for both ends up being about 24000Yen (~$AUD280).
Will let you know if the filtration and flow is "to good to be true".

I have already installed the Apexi SAFCII in my car (kinda put them in the wrong order but I managed to get it cheap). I will let you know how the car performs after the mod.

My car is an auto but I dont feel like the low end is too bad on it. Is it because the auto peak torque is much lower than the manual?

Sounds like the UK LOC guys expect the 1G-FE to spit out a fair amount of oil from the breather: Crankcase Breather Filter

So am I better to look at a full oil catch system?
