im terribly disappointed. Ive got a stock 3s-ge with the exception of a drop in k&n filter. The car did 162.8 whp and about 133ft/lbs. I was truly expecting alot more out of this engine, so i ran a diagnostic on the car and the O2 snesor was bad. Could that be a cause of my bad figures ?, and where can i locate one of these sensors.

oh heres a link to a clip of one of the runs

dyno run

tell me what you guys think
thanks

thats pretty much right..why are you dissappointed?

210hp x 20% = 168hp....

The O2 sensor could contribute to "low" figures yes. check Matt (Frylai), he can get them.

do you guys have any actual dyno result that i could compare mines to, i'll scan my graph to show you all, cause someone was telling me about my injector duty cycle somthing buecuase of the bad o2 sensor, i did'nt fully understand

oh and another guy with a stock 3s-ge did pretty close to 190whp, there was no visable mods done to it, apart from an exhaust system and i doubt very much that it'll give him a 20something hp increase

What gear did they dyno the car in ?? Cos i hear that you should dyno cars in the closest gear to 1:1
Only thing in a 6speed, thats 5th gear and you hit the speed limiter. So would think that they would have used 4th gear right ??

Sirnixalot, i thought there was more loss than 20% for a rear wheel drive ???

thats another reason for discrepencies between the 2 cars

correction factors and calculations bodge the true numbers.

A dyno run must be done in the closest gear ratio to 1:1. In th altezzas this is 5th gear. Grab an HKS SLD and strap it to the dyno again in 5th gear if you want the proper numbers.

On a side note, no way in hell a stock altezza (with an exhaust) makes a 190rwhp pull in 5th gear.

The graph below is an old on from forum member Twincams. The mods are
a de-cat, exhaust and a greddy emanage. As you can see...there is no way that dudes got 190rwhp.

...2,2litre big bore kit!!

Dynos are often "very variable". The head of Toyota racing in South Africa said they could drop 40bhp in one run to the next on the same day, and not know what had happened. However the lap times stayed the same.

A dyno day is best, so you can run cars on the same dyno in the same conditions.

Yeah, I only got 99.6kW at the wheels (133hp) sad.gif

Dyno's will give you different results given different modes also.

Like DynoDynamics dynos have a 'tune' mode and a 'shootout' mode
Must get mine re-dyno'd

I have a PDF somewhere discussing dyno discrepancies.. will hunt it down.

an HKS SLD is a speed limit defender. i have one on my car...no more 190kmh speed limit cool.gif

basically dynos will give you a false hope of actual figures some if not most of the time.

what they can do is tell you what part made a difference and roughly how big a difference. This only works if you keep the ambient conditions the same...minimize the variables and maximize the constants.
